Boca Grande Tarpon fishing with Captain Mark BennettTarpon season is in full swing here at home in the Boca Grande area.  This time of year they can be found on the flats, along the beaches and in the passes.  In May and June I concentrate most of my efforts fishing for the tarpon moving along the beaches.  Pods of tarpon along our beaches average 40-100 fish.  Sizes range from 80-120 pounds.  150 pound tarpon are more common than 50 pounders.

We use a variety of live baits.  Crabs, threadfin herring, pinfish and even squirrel fish.

May-August is the peak of the tarpon migration through this area.  I still have a few dates open in June and July.  We catch some of the largest fish of the season during these months.

Last year in July and August the tarpon fishing was as good as we have seen in years.  with the cooler water temperatures we are having, I expect this year will be no different.

I just had a cancellation in May.  May 20th is now open.  I am still open June 14th, 20th, 22nd and 23rd.
